Tamela Spicer Bio

Tamela Spicer has worked in the non-profit sector for nearly 20 years. She has worked with a variety of non-profit organizations managing events, overseeing fund development and working as Director for the Western Michigan Region of The Arthritis Foundation as well as Regional Director of Development for The Salvation Army Western Michigan/Northern Indiana Division. 

Tamela has worked as a consultant since 1988, focusing on capacity building for small to mid-size faith based nonprofits. She specializes in strategic planning and board development, but has also assisted various organizations with event management, organizational assessment, executive coaching and annual fund development. 

An accomplished speaker, Tamela has presented at the Michigan Nonprofit Association Super-Conference and the Blackbaud International Conference on Philanthropy, in Charleston, South Carolina and San Francisco, California. She was also an online instructor for Blackbaud’s Knowledge Network, teaching classes in event management and volunteer development. 

 

Tamela served her community through volunteer work with the Grand Rapids Jaycees for over 10 years. She was part of the Executive Planning Committee for the First of America Classic, a Senior PGA tour event, and oversaw various Jaycee events ranging from gala dinners to training seminars. Tamela also served as a Vice-President with the Michigan Jaycees, traveling throughout the state to train and mentor local Jaycee chapters. 

 

A graduate of Aquinas College, Tamela holds Bachelor Degrees in both Business Administration and Religious Studies. She has continued her studies through the Indiana School of Fundraising and is a graduate of the International School of Ministry. Currently Tamela is pursuing a graduate degree in Communications from Spring Arbor University.
